Which MTB for Gothenburg area?
Hi all, as I am fairly new to MTB in Gothenburg, I need to validate one thing with people who have been around for a while:
Is a light 130/120mm enough or should I go for a 150/140mm full suspension to hit the trails around?

I am used to the alpine terrain and I do not practice enduro but more looking for a good all-rounder that is capable and will hit the trails up and down with a bit of playfulness.
I have seen two well-priced Radon bikes (Skeen trail 9.0 VS Slide trail 8.0, the latter being about 800 grams above.)

Tack!

I ride 140/130mm as an allrounder and wouldn't want less, rather 10mm more front and back to ride the rougher trails in Lackarebäck faster. But it's also doable on a hardtail, so preference mostly.

120/130 is ideal for a lot of the trails here, but if you want to ride the chunkier trails in Lackarebäck and Änggården you'll be a lot happier with 140/150 or even a touch more. So of course the answer is both ?

Skeen trail 10 still on discount. Lots of other on sales on bike24 as well. From memory process 134, optic and alpine trail

I upgraded from a 130/130 to a 150/150 about 2 year ago. A bit more stroke length made it even more fun and useful for the rougher trails. If you're not in a hurry, go for more suspension. If you're more of a Strava-time-hunter, go less...

Isn't the ideal bike still a 160mm hardtail?!
+1
I have both a 160mm 27.5" FS (Vitus Summet) and a 160mm 26" HT (NS Bikes Clash)

Both works very well everywhere in Gothenburg.
I would not trade them to something with less travel because I like how they behave both uphill and downhill.
If I was a type of person who prioritized speed in more flat terrain I imagine 130-ish mm would be better.

But choosing between 130-160mm travel or 65-67 deg HA I would rather have 130mm travel with 65 deg HA than 160mm travel with 67 deg HA.
Meaning that geometry is more important than travel.

Performance is not the idea, just do not want to have a big machine that has a big weight. It would be around 15,5kg all together for the 150/140 that I have seen. Will this not be too much, or just good?

The ones I have seen are 65*HA (150/140mm - https://www.bike-discount.de/de/radon-slide-trail-8.0-2) OR 66*HA (130/120mm https://www.bike-discount.de/en/radon-skeen-trail-9.0-2)
Not sure how much the 1 degree HA différence would make on rides compare to 800grams less, that’s about the weight difference.

I can’t really go above 25000sek so these are quite good price/ratio for the specs

Could also go with this Orbea https://www.tcmcykel.se/p/mountainb...ntainbike-metallic-olive-green-titanium-black

But not so sure about the weight (could not find reliable infos) and the Marzocchi Bomber Z2.

I have seen that they have it only with the fork Revelation, quite under the Lyrik I could have on the Radon slide trail. But the Allebike discovery is quite light I have to say
can be upgraded with a charger making comparable with lyrik in that sense - but it should really be compared with skeen wich I think has a pike

The new Occam has Orbeas internal through-headset cable routing. If you don't want to spend extra time in your workshop or don't have a good budget for labor costs I would have avoided that frame....

This is form an Oiz, but same construction:

Or as an Orbea-rep said to The Lone Wolf regarding reliability of this construction: "Orbea feels confident that most riders will no longer own their bike by the time this high-quality bearing needs to be replaced"

This development is design only and if I would change bike I would go for something as easy as possible to maintain.

Bird write like this regarding their Aeries 9:
"No cables through the headset or bars, because we don’t hate you"

It is a Fox 34 Performance FIT GRIP on the Skeen which I do not know at all
Yes, pike on skeen 10 but I see now that 9 is very discounted as well.
Regardless if I remember right the Skeen has a pretty conservative geo so may not be what you are looking for. They do have a LT version as well, but still

Thanks everyone for the advice and taking the time.

I am gonna go with the Slide trail 8.0 https://www.bike-discount.de/en/radon-slide-trail-8.0-2
For the price/specs ratio it looks great for what I need.
I might compromise a bit the rolling/uphill part but I believe that the playfulness I will get in descent would be worth it. I am not a competition guy so I will take a few more minutes to climb uphill :)

The fork is crazy good and components not bad at all for this price point.
If anyone as anything to warn me up about the set up please let me know ahah

If you can read German, or can use Google translate, there is a review in a reliable German magazine here (2021 version, but frame seems to be identical):

All very positive, except that you need to use the climb switch to avoid some bobbing on climbs.

For the price it is probably good.
Pressfit BB
and the wheels have HG body which is a bit of a problem for upgrades. Probably requires new hub or wheel

Which MTB for Gothenburg area?
only because I prefer shimano and that the body is matching the rest of the group. (in SRAM NX fits a HG body while GX require XD)

Be aware that BD has mixed up both RRP pricing and geo (or radon has)
