On the journey back from vacation my bike and those of three other friends travelling with me were delayed at Heathrow. The bikes arrived at Arlanda (terminal 2) on the following flight the same day (Wednesday Aug 6) but due to an overload situation at Arlanda, by Saturday I was still waiting for my bike to be delivered. So I decided to drive to Arlanda to collect my bike myself but once there, it was nowhere to be found.
The baggage man told me he was sure the bike arrived on Wednesday together with the three other bikes, but sometime between then and Saturday mine disappeared.
It's now been a week and they still haven't found it, so the only plausible explanation is that someone saw a nice Evoc bike bag among the 100's of bags stranded in the baggage collection area and decided to take it home. In other words, it has most likely been stolen.
It is a Santa Cruz Blur LT, red, with full XT components and FOX Kashima CDT fork and shock from 2013. The picture below shows the original configuration but since then I converted it to a 1x10 setup with a narrow-wide chainring (no front derailleur, no chain guide) and a black BBG bashguard. Also, when it was stolen it had a regular seatpost with a Selle Italia saddle (not a Reverb seatpost and WTB saddle as in the picture).
There is probably only one bike like this in Sweden (if it's still in the country), so if you see one matching this description, it is very likely mine. Any information helping me to recover the bike will be greatly appreciated and duly rewarded (at the very least with a beer :-).
For those who wonder, the insurance (If) and British Airways, together, will cover less than half the actual price of the bike :-(.
By the way, does anyone have any experience/knowledge regarding liabilities in case of theft of a luggage in the baggage collection area of an airport? Is the airline liable (and hence the airline rules that apply), or the baggage handling firm?
