I hope you don´t have the section between Fjällnora and Lunsen in mind. It is strictly for true masochists, as the path is a figment of Upplandsstiftelsen´s fantasy. Lots of underbrush, branches, and twigs and boulders, and no trail at all for long sections. Just recently some guys that did it asked me to add a warning to MTB runt Uppsala because they had got their day spoilt carrying the bikes for miles.

Thanks for the warning, I'll check with Emma when she gets in. We're heading for some place to the East, which is a popular skating place in the Winter (you can rent skates there, I'm sure you'll know it). I've been, but I can't recall the name of the place.

Cheers Per, see you next week I hope. I've been speaking to Emma about it. She's extremely fit, but would struggle a bit on the route we took this week, so we'll see.

Yes, that is Fjällnora. There is supposed to be a leg of Upplandsleden that connects to Lunsen but it is horrid. I can hike a bike a bit if there is a reward but on that trail there is no reward. One just stumbles along carrying the bike long sections.

However, if you want to head from Fjällnora to Lunsen there is another option. If one heads south of Fjällnora, keeping east of the lake one can go on a fine sinletrack to Edna, and then head south west and west to Lunsen on small country roads via Lagga and join Upplandsleden (led 10 on MTB runt Uppsala). Would be a good idea to carry Fritidskartan 1:75 000.

Jimbob: It's rather funny you know, a friend of mine and I tried that part of Upplandsleden before talking with people who knows, and exactly like Per says, we had to carry our bikes more than 10 km - always thinking that after next big obstacle the opportunity will come to bike. It never came.

Is anybody interested in biking tomorrow?

Thanks v much Per and Clas, we would have had a very frustrating day by the sounds. We'll try and find this alternative route you mention Per. And we will try and pick up a decent map in the morning and get my chain ring tightened, as the two smallest cogs have worked loose.

Clas, I'm always up for a ride and will most likely be heading out on Sunday (that'll make it five days in a row) I want to make the most of it before the Winter sets in.

I'm in Eriskberg, so have really good access to Nåsten, although I'm also keen to go back over to Lunsen, via Gula Stigen.

If you're about and you like the idea of this, let me know.

Jamie,

Ok, great to hear. However, Sunday isn't possible as I will have to help my oldman to move - the lorry is already rented. Hope to see you again on the Wednesday ride though.

Per, etc.

Just seeing if you guys are out tomorrow (Wednesaday) night, as usual? Any idea where you will be going?

I've been out on the bike most days since last week trying to make the most of the weather, whiler it lasts. Lots of time over Nästen, which is still a complete maze to me. I came acorsss the track we were on last week yesterday, it's so very good.

We also rode to Länna and took the route you suggested Per. We went out on the old roads, via Danmark and joined the track Eda, which was a bit rocky in places, but fine otherwise.

We're implementing a dynamic gallery on our website, it looks a bit ropey at the minute, but it's here;

http://www.outbreak-adventure.com/galleries

I've only uploaded three albums for now. One from Wales and two from here. More will follow.

See some of you tomorrow.

Yes, I´m charging the batteries just now, but I can´t really say where we are going, depends on where people like to go, and if everyone has a decent light. We could do Hundslädevändan in Nåsten again, perhaps going via Berthåga, was a long time since we biked in Berthåga. But we could also traverse Lunsen from Bergsbrunna to Flottsund (route 3), or do something else. We will decide together tomorrow.

Yes, Hundslädevändan is great, the best trail in Nåsten. Last Wednesday, following MTB runt Uppsala, we came in via 21, went on the old railway (black line on the map), to 22, 16 (short bit), then 6 (Hundslädevändan) to Fäbodarna, and at last 18 back to town.

It is fine ride, had made a section for MTB runt Uppsala on the trails beyond Fjällnora, when I had a bad computer crash some years ago. Lightning struck and I did some bad misstakes trying to get the computer going again. Could not restore it and I have yet to find the time to rewrite it.

We did an all day epic on Sunday starting from Södertälje, http://happymtb.org/forum/read.php/1/275809/page=2 on a trail that is said to be the most fun in Sweden.

Splendid, all those chantarells ;)

Yes, usual place, usual time

Edit, Fjällnora inte Siggefora

Thanks, I can now see it on your map. I got onto it somewhere on 6 and rode out the end at Fäbodarna then came back via 18. Our Orienteering map from 1989 really neeeds to be updated!

Yes, I think the latest map was printed in 98, it is fairly accurate, except for that some new trails are not on it, e.g., 22 and 16a.

I won't have lights I'm afraid. My head torch is arriving from England on Thursday and I'm hoping that will do for a while. If not, I'll invest in some lights. I'll have to get some before the Winter.

Just thinking, I went out riding over Nästen last night and it was already fairly dark by 19.30. If you guys want to ride in the dark maybe I should sit this one out until next week, when I'll have my headtorch at least?

Apparently, people with torches are in a minority, so I think we will head for Nåsten that is close and try to be through the technical trail before it gets pitch black. Then, we can ride back to town on backroads with the lights people have.

But from next week it will not be possible to ride safely after 19 without light

Passerar Björns hög o tar sedan grusvägen led 2 till led 6 skulle jag tro.

Thanks again for a great trail last night Per,

At some point can you send me the route numbers, so I can look it up on your map.

It was fun, perfect conditions;)

Short bit on 1 "Grusvägen", then 6 "Hundslädevändan" consistently through Nåsten (minor variations in two places that are not on the map, in one place they put a fence over the trail in the second we found a better, drier route than on the map), and then 18 "Hågadalen" all the way back to Eriksberg.

Hej Per,

I've just been updating our website and put a link to your Uppsala route guide. It's on our page ..co.uk/links

I recently changed our site over from .com to .co.uk.

Do you think, at some point you could link to our site on your links page. I'm trying to improve our google ranking through links to our site.

Cheers and see you next Wednesday. I've now got a light (headtorch).

Ok, next time I up load it.

Brilliant ;)

By the way,

- I saw a newer map of Nåsten in LundeQ, think it was dated from 2001 (or 02) and it had the recently made trails on it.

- Also, tomorrow we are going with David to an epic section of Sörmlandleden, south of Mariefred. We use two cars and do it the "american way" putting a car at each end at the moment there is room for one more rider and bike if you like to tag a long. http://happymtb.org/forum/read.php/1/281348 It is supposed to be a fantatic trail

Cool, we'll get that. We got lost walking over there yesterday and we're discussing this.

Sounds great, athough we've got plans, already. Next time...

Enjoy yourselves :-)

Hi Per,

I'll be there tomorrow. Emma wants to practice a little more before she joins us.

We went along Gula Stigen this evening and came back in the dark, which was doubly confusing doing it in the dark and backward!

Anyhow, our headtorches are just about adequate, no more than that.

See you tomorrow. Hope your ride on Sunday was good.

Bye, Jamie

Absolutely, I will never get bored of that trail in Nästen, although I'm going to have to improve the lighting arrangements and I'm not looking forward to muddy trails, having been spoilt this last month. Next week I will try and remember to bring along the new 2004 Orienteering map of Nästen that we bought.

I also want to have a chat with you guys about a couple of things.... I'm really keen to offer holidays through my company OutBreak Adventure here, to my british countrymen, probably active city breaks, staying in a cottage with a night ride, a couple of days riding and time to visit Stockholm. I'm wondering what you chaps think of this idea?

I've also got to put a full programme together and need to find;

- A nice cottage, close'ish to Uppsala town.
- Hopefully, somehwere to rent decent bikes
- Possibly, someone to act as guide and maybe do airport picks up in July and August '06.

I've also been meaning to ask if Swede's would be keen on the sort of all inclusive holidays we offer in the Alps (take a look at site with link below). I'm wondering whether or not to invest the time in marketing it over here.....

Any and all thoughts very welcome. Maybe I should open a new post on this subject?

Jamie
