Used Bike Market In Dalarna
Hi,

I’m moving to Malung in December and wandering whether to sell my DH bike in the UK and buy a used DH bike when I arrive.

I just wandered what the market for used bikes in the area is, I would get about 10,000 SEK for my 2008 Demo 8 (http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1813111/) over here, what would that get me around Malung/Dalarna?

Any help greatly appreciated and sorry for typing in English, my Swedish is not quite there yet and Google translate is designed to make me look like an idiot, and i don't need any help with that.

Cheers,

Christian.

That looks nice apart from the frame size, i broke my arm on a medium and scared myself in to owning larges. Over here there is a massive used bike market on pinkbike, ebay etc..
Do you live in the area? I wondered if there were any wild trails, or if it is all bike park.

Well the two forums you could check is the "Köp & Sälj" at happyride.se and blocket.se which is the Swedish equivalent of Craigslist (I suppose that's only American, but anyway). Pretty much the only marketplace for cars and whatever you want to sell, really in Sweden. Another thing to check our is the used bikes from the rental stores. Especially Åre, maybe Trysil and so on. They usually sell the bikes after the seasons, and while they are well used they are well maintained and especially the more low end might not be that hard ridden. Might be worth a call!

If you move to Malung you will have a lot of really good trails nearby, Lima to mention one nearby, byt I am sure there are in Malung aswell. A bike park with DH in Lindvallen, Sälen, an hours drive from Malung. Then Rörbäcksnäs, 1,5 hours from Malung, have, what they claim, the best singletracks in Sweden.

Sounds good, might need to invest in an AM to go with my DH bike. Gesunda looks decent as well from what I've seen.
Over here most stuff is rider built and not bike park so wondered if riders build their own DH trails in the area, the area certainly isn't lacking in wooded hills!

That's probably your best option! With a 10k bike there's always that risk of bearing failures, frame cracks and what not if you buy a second hand bike. Like they say with cars, "the cheapest car is pretty much always the car you already own".

Skistar sell off their bikes after the season and so does Kaisers to some extent. I live in Sälen and do the downhill tracks on a regular basis with my AM bike just fine, sure I skip the biggest airs but in general the tracks here are fine with an AM or enduro bike can't speak for Gesunda though. We don't build any downhill courses in the woods but some singeltracks are good fun, Rostberget at Lima is great and then there is some up on the mountain. Malung has a few cross country tracks that are marked. If you are just going for one bike and want the most of the area then I would say to get an enduro bike but if downhill is your thing I'd contact the Skistar shop in lindvallen. It's the trailriding that is the really nice thing in this area. Malung btw.... skip that and move to Sälen!

Haha well obviously :P

But yes, without knowing the market in England I'd keep the bike for sure! If you find one here, fine, the market in Sweden is usually pretty good for the sellers so sell it here and buy whatever. But having to buy a second hand bike might end up being a nightmare, and I speak of personal experiences here. There is a great risk that you end up buying whatever just because of abstinence. Also keep in mind that breaks in Sweden is on the opposite sides of those in England. Maybe you're used to European standard already, but having to switch cables and bleed and everything is of course something to take into consideration. Apart from that, the DH rentals sell out their bikes in a couple of weeks as mentioned.

Har jag missat något? Varför skrev Mini_me i en fem år gammal tråd?

(Och clara ger tips till TS som, jag antar, har redan löst problemet för fem år sedan (och fick reden samma tips i sista gamla inlägg))
