Five fjords - eleven climbs between 500 -1500 meters up from crystal sea - several new glaciers - and another trhilling roll-out of spectacle between our two new stage finishes, Trollstigen, Geiranger, Nordangsdalen, Eagles`road, Dalsnibba 1476, Trollveggen, Old Strynefjell and the prologue climbing to northern Europes second highest road - Blåhøe at 1617 asl. The view from the summit in our eyes beats Juvass and Dalsnibba.
We have drooled over this hill since 2007 and found the way to include it must be as prologue.* It will obviously produce bigger time gaps than a normal prologue and our hope is the next stages are weel suited for the needed attacks on jerseys and points. KOM points will be placed far from summit finishes to open things up. Vågå is also a first and a favourite as start and finishing town, pitoresque and more compact than last years. And as always: Locals are thrilled and flattered to have you using roads and scenery they identify so strongly with.
* Blåhøe is 15 kms up from Vågå and only the first KM is asphalt. The remainder is mostly smooth gravel, well doable with say GP4000 or similar top tires. The final few kms are rougher and you should see if your bike will take say 28mms, cyclocross style or just a pair of extra puncture resistant thick rubbered tyres. You may do the prologue during given hours Friday and most of Saturday and of course inspect the track first. We will make sure there are spare bikes of different sorts that you can borrow. -And of course in classic viking spirit, your competitiors will surely lend you their own bike. Believe us, things will be fair, calm and definetely worth the trouble
As usual any spare equipment can be left safely locked in in Vågå during your week of exploration.
And for the gap between Stryn and Stryn...at the moment we are not considering a time trial. Or a mass start. Einar (86 next summer) have already approved the route with a giggling laughter.
So what are YOU waiting for..? All the best, Geir & CO
