Hi all,
I am planning the following route in two weeks: https://en.mapy.cz/s/gufudacaho
I'm going with a tent, will do wildcamping, occasionally campsites.
Does the route look ok? Are there any especially interesting/boring places? Paths to avoid?
Any recommended landmarks?
I can adjust it if necessary :)

Regards,
Robert

Looks like a good plan. Don't miss Mariefred. You can also try to google for sightseeing / castles / museums / things to see / -- in an area, to find things worthy of a detour. There are thousands of small roads to choose from, you only need a good map. Another possibility is to take a ferry to Gotland, and then back to mainland.

Definitely try to incorporate Gotland in your plan if you have the time

Not sure what terrain/roads you are looking for or how long you want the route to be. But an alternative to Gotland is Öland. Take the ferry from Kalmar and ride the gravel roads of the west coast to the north then ferry back to Oskarshamn. The west coast of Öland is really nice, we did that ride last year (from Karlskrona).

If you want to extend the route a bit more you could also add Torhamn on the south tip of the archipelago after Karlskrona. There is a nice little cafe down by the harbour and this is where the russian submarine u137 ran aground in the eighties.

Thanks,
plan is to do max. 7x100 km Karlskrona-Stockholm (+ 8th day to Nynashamm). Oland looks nice, I'll consider that (Karlskrona - Kalmar (campsite) - bridge to Oland - Oland to the north (campsite) - use ferry to Oskarshamn.
Do you think the bridge is much worse than the ferry? Btw. are there multiple ferries there? Dessi ferry timetable indicates they start late on weekends, which could conflict with my plans to start day early...
As for roads preferences - asphalt, gravel, occassional earthen paths are ok.

Robert

You are unfortunatley not allowed to ride your bicycle on the bridge to Öland. Hence, the suggestion to take the ferry (I assume).

Thats a pretty nice route. I’ve biked it from Västrum (south of Västervik) to Stockholm a couple of times. Also on day trips further south. There’s quite a lot of gravel south of Västervik and south of Slätbaken bay/Stegeholm, allthough they are quite smoth and nice.

(Karlskrona - Kalmar (campsite) - bridge to Oland - Oland to the north (campsite)
We did exactly that, but continued around Öland instead for another 3 days, then back to Kalmar. I would say that besides the magnificent "Alvaret" in the south, the ride up to Byxelkrok was the nicest and most varying. About 100km mix of tarmac, gravel and some trails (we rode gravel bikes). Big changes in landscape, from totally open parts to pine forests, beaches and so on.

Thank you all.
I have adjusted my plan, which I'd like to share.
Day 1 - from Karlskrona to Kalmar. Find a wild camping spot near Kalmar.
Day 2 - from Kalmar to Oland. Either by ferry (first at 9 AM on weekends) or by bus if possible. Then ride to the north of it and use a proper campground (Tokenas Camping? Recharge batteries)
Day 3 - from Oland (Byxelkrok) to mainland (Oskarshamn) by ferry, then to Vastervik. Campground would be preferable, but haven't found anything interesting yet.
Day 4 - From Vastervik to Tranno/Yxno - wild camping? There seems to be nothing there, and maybe I should ride more to the west and finish before Soderkoping?
Day 5 - To another unknown place - Uren lake south to Flen
Day 6 - From Uren to Strangnas
Day 7 - From Strangnas to Stockholm through Mariefred
Day 8 - From Stockholm to Nynashamn

I will have to print the maps and add the notes about POIs and stuff.

Regards,
Robert

I think 9.30 is the first ferry FROM Kalmar. 9.00 is from Öland. We took the 9.30 I believe. If I remember correctly we stayed at Tokenäs in Byxelkrok. It was a very basic but nice campground. I would recommend booking, I dont think they have an open space for tents, only numbered spaces. But that could have changed, give them a call.
I can give you a couple of pointers on the route later on. This "gravel road" is recommended to avoid for instance :D

I would appreciate the pointers :) Btw. if I wake up early, I will try to jump on a bus instead of the ferry. It's written that it depends on bus driver if they take a bike aboard or not... I will contact the campground, too :)
