Mtb 29" wheels?

Can someone please explain why Mtb start producing 29" wheels? What's the differents between 26" wheels and 29" wheels? What should I know to buy a mtb bike? Can also comment in swedish.

The bigger wheels roll over obstacles easier.

And the producers want people to buy new bikes all the time... ;-)
