New to Sverige...
Hello!

Apologies if this has been covered by someone else before... my Swedish is incredibly basic and I couldn't see whether or not this was the place to post this.

I am new to Sweden from the UK and I'm looking to meet a few people to do some mountain biking and maybe make some new friends along the way. I used to do a bit of mountain biking and I have been pointed in the direction of this place by people I work with. I've clicked around the website and I was wondering about the following:

1) How open are the rides that are posted on the happyride calendar every week? Do you get random people turning up every week who haven't ridden before or is it more of a club type ride?

2) What is the general ability of the people that ride? Are there many of the more relaxed pace riders that someone like myself could keep company?

If this the right place to come to, then I look forward to hearing from you :) If not, I would equally like to hear if there are any groups that any of you are aware of that I might be able to talk to.

Happy riding!

Yes, you are in the right place.

1. All posted rides are open for anyone
2. Yes

Depending on where you live there might be a few other rides posted on Facebook, have a look around.

Welcome and a good start here!

You could post your own ride as well and see if people turn up.

There is a loosely used “ability” scale where Easy Ride means anyone can join, you wait for people etc.

I think there are regular rides in most cities. Where do you live?

I live in Krokslätt on the border of Gothenburg and Mölndal. I've been across to Änggårdsbergen and Delsjön so far and whilst they both seem great, I'm still learning the areas, so I seem to spend most of my time stopping every 100 meters to check my phone to make sure I don't accidentally go down a black or something way beyond my abilities. I think a group ride might remedy this, and make it more fun!

The 'easy' rides seem like a good place to start. Thank you! I'll keep an eye out on facebook and the calendar. I'll look into posting my own rides when I've built up some miles :)

A bit of a commute for you to get there perhaps, but there will be a Måndagsride/Easy ride on Monday at 18:00.

Just show up if you like to. All rides are open for anyone to join.
Average rider is experienced and skilled and the terrain in quite chunky but not worse than that mostly anyone can join.

Pace is not to high this early in season, we also do regular stops and wait for the group to gather in intersections throughout the trails so no one is lost.

See you ??

My bike often gets taken for more of walk than a ride! A fact I'm hoping to remedy in the coming weeks and months.

I am very tempted by monday's ride. However I've never actually done a night ride before. I have a relatively decent front mounted light, but that's about it for night riding. Would this be sufficient for these types of rides? I don't want to be the one holding everyone back if I can help it!

You also have the dawn patrol rides on saturday mornings at 8.45 from Specialized Concept Store. Google it. Event on Facebook.

Actually use to be some English speaking blokes on those rides. Open for everyone and pretty relaxed.

@BjornR: Thanks very much! I suspected a bike mounted light might not be enough. The one I have is incredibly bright, but I guess if it only points in the direction of my handlebars, then it's just asking for a big crash!

@CX Grand Prix: These Saturday morning rides look like a great place to start, at least until the light returns! Thank you! I'll try and come along to the next one :)
