The Netherlands to Nordkapp via Baltic countries and Sweden
Chapeau and hats off! A really impressive piece of work.

The way you seem to always stay positive and see the fun and beauty in things really impresses me. I suppose that really is one of the key ingredients into being able to pull off a multi-week tour. I hope I'll some day will have the guts, stamina and mental strength to do a long trip like that.

Since, as I understand it, you went up to the Nordkinn peninsula on your trip last year. Now that you've reached Nordkapp, how would you compare them? I guess Nordkapp has much more tourists since it is the more well-known one. In fact, this has always puzzled me a bit since Nordkapp, as you write on your blog, really is an island and not part of mainland Norway while Nordkinn is indeed part of the mainland. To the extent that a place could be interesting just because it is the farthest north/south/east/west/... you can go, it would seem more interesting to me to go as far north on the mainland as possible. Of course, with the opening of the tunnel you can argue that Nordkapp is the farthest north you can go by road in Europe and that it therefore is a place of interest. So, I guess my question is, do you think that Nordkapp is perhaps more beautiful or spectacular and that may be part of the reason why it is more well known or is it simply a "marketing effect" that it is the place where tourists tend to go (at least I have rarely heard of someone going to Nordkinn)?

Hi there. Actually I'm goin to the nordkyn again this
trip. I had bad weather there last time. Still, it is
Similar scenery. The kind I love.

It's not possible to drive to the most northern
Point in nordkyn. Maybe that's the difference.

Bed time for me. An early boat tomorrow

Well, with weather like that, photos come out nicely. :-)

I was amazed how big the crabs were. Very impressive.

Are the cloudberries already ripe? Could you collect enough of them to make a meal of it? We use to make jam of it and have it on pancakes and waffles, together with whipped cream. That's a wonderful combination and rated as possibly the best jam you could find in this region. I believe the brown bears are pretty fond of them too, in order to fatten up before the hibernation.

Some of the cloudberries are ripe. I didn't eat too many though.
I am turning into a bear, not shaving. Maybe that's why I like them so much. :-)

They are, indeed, nice with waffles and whipped cream. I've had that a few times in cafes.

Thanks! Glad people enjoyed reading my blog and could share some of what I saw! :-)

Thanks for the postings. Very thorough exploration of the northern coastline, quite unusual itinerary I dare say. Nice read and well documented. Welcome back if you come up with some more trips in the 'hood.

Hey thanks! I love the far north, and the landscape there.. My plan was to be at the North Cape early enough to have time to do all that exploration in the north. It was well worth it!! :-)

Where do you live (where is your neighbourhood)? :-)

The Netherlands to Nordkapp via Baltic countries and Sweden
After cycling 6315km, I have had my first week of ‘normal life’. I miss the road, and its good to be back. Both at the same time.

Thinking about my trip, I am collecting and collating material from the trip. You will see some of the results of this in the coming weeks.

Today I have my final route for my cycle trip from 2013.

Now that my cycle trip from Holland to the North Cape has finished, I am putting together some nice material to remind me of the trip. Here is the first of 3 videos I am preparing of the trip - this one from Holland to Tallinn. My passage though Sweden will be on the next video. Stay tuned for that! :-)

I have it almost ready. A friend who is a graphics designer will do the finishing touches. It might be a few weeks as he is going on holiday now. It will be worth the wait. I'm already happy with it. Beautiful forests, sunsets, killer mosquitos and a short clip with me speaking broken swedish on Norwegian television. Ja. Jag talar litet svensk..

Nice!

However, it also makes me a bit sad to watch the video since it reminds me of how much I like those summer evenings when the sun takes such a long time to set and the nights when it hardly gets dark at all. So many month until next summer ... :-(

Yes. The summer has gone for this year. Still, the winter can be really beautiful too. I was in Tromsø in December a few years ago. The light (in the middle of the day) was beautiful..

Yes. That has to be done on the move. The mosquitos are too quick if you are standing still.. :-)
